The most expensive video is the one nobody wanted. Before a day of filming and editing, a two-minute check on whether the idea has search demand, an open competitive gap and any viral upside saves the effort more often than creators expect. The Video Idea Validator returns a viability score out of 100, a demand estimate, a competition read, the strongest angle, and a go or no-go with reasons.
This guide explains the three components, how to read a borderline score, and what to do with a no-go.
Three components
Demand: is anyone searching or browsing for this, and how many? Competition: who already covers it, how well, how recently? Viral potential: does the idea have an angle that travels beyond search? A high score needs at least two of three. A search-only idea with zero viral potential can still be a go if demand is strong and competition is weak.
Borderline scores
Between 45 and 60, the recommended angle is the deciding factor: the validator usually finds a reframing that lifts the score — a budget tier, a constraint, a comparison — and states what it would do to demand and competition. Re-validate with the reframed idea before deciding.
No-go
A no-go with reasons is valuable: "demand exists but three large channels covered it in the last 60 days" tells you to wait six months; "no measurable demand" tells you to make it a Short or a chapter instead. The reasoning section is written to redirect, not just reject.
Tips
- Describe the idea in one sentence plus the angle you have in mind; the validator scores the angle too.
- Validate three ideas and make the best one, rather than validating one and hoping.
- Log scores against actual performance after ten videos; you will learn your channel's threshold.
Common mistakes
- Ignoring a no-go because you like the idea — Make it as a Short and see.
- Validating too vaguely — "Espresso video" scores nothing useful.
- Treating 70 as a guarantee — Execution still decides.
Worked example
Input: "Comparing three budget hand grinders under $100 for espresso, blind taste-tested."
What the report returned: Viability 74. Demand: solid (search + browse). Competition: medium — two strong videos, both over a year old. Viral potential: moderate (blind test reveal). Angle: lead with the winner's price. Go.
Frequently asked questions
How is demand estimated?
From search-signal depth, related-query breadth and topic interest in the niche. It is a band, not a count.
Can it validate Shorts ideas?
Yes — say "Short" and it weights viral potential over search demand.
What score is a go?
Above 60 is a go in most niches; 45–60 depends on the angle; below 45 is a no-go or a reframe.
Is this the same as the Video Idea Generator?
No — the Generator produces ideas. The Validator tests one you already have.
