A profile audit looks at the whole picture at once: what a visitor sees in the first five seconds, what the posts say you are about, the format mix, the hooks, whether you show up consistently, how you engage, and whether any of it turns a visitor into a follower. The LinkedIn Profile Audit scores seven areas, names the three highest-impact fixes and gives a 30-day plan.
This guide explains the scores, how the fixes are ordered and what to paste for a useful audit.
Seven scores
Headline and About; positioning; post mix and format; hooks; consistency and timing; engagement habits; follower conversion. Each is out of 100 with the reasoning. A profile with strong hooks and weak conversion is winning attention it does not keep — usually a headline problem. A profile with strong positioning and weak hooks has a message nobody opens.
Three fixes, in order
The report picks the three changes with the biggest expected effect and orders them. The first is almost always the headline or the About opening, because they touch every post and comment you make. Then format or hooks. Then habits.
The 30-day plan and summary
Week by week: what to change, what to post and what to measure. The 400-word summary states where the profile is, where it should go and why — written so it can be shared with a coach, a manager or a team.
Tips
- Paste the headline, the About section, the follower count and the last ten posts with impressions and comments.
- Say what you want the profile to do — clients, a job, an audience — because conversion means something different for each.
- Re-audit after 30 days and compare the scores.
Common mistakes
- Describing the profile you want — Describe the one you have. The audit works from reality.
- Skipping the numbers — Without impressions and comments the consistency and conversion scores are guesses.
- Doing the third fix first — The order is the point.
Worked example
Input: Headline "Senior Consultant at Firm". About: career summary. 2,100 followers. Posts twice a month, mostly reshares of company content.
What the report returned: Scores: headline 25, positioning 40, mix 30, hooks 35, consistency 20, engagement 30, conversion 20. Fixes: rewrite the headline around the outcome you deliver; replace reshares with two original posts a week from one pillar; 15 minutes of commenting daily. Plan: week 1 profile, weeks 2–4 posting and commenting habit.
Frequently asked questions
Is this different from the Headline & About Optimizer?
Yes. The Optimizer rewrites the profile text; the Audit scores the whole profile and content and produces a plan.
Can it audit a company page?
Yes — say so. The engagement-habits score becomes about page commenting and employee amplification.
How often should I audit?
Quarterly, or after a role or offer change.
