Growth on YouTube is rarely linear, which makes "when will I hit 10k?" a harder question than it looks. The Channel Growth Predictor projects your subscriber count at 30, 60, 90 and 365 days from your current rate and pattern, dates the milestones, compares your trajectory with channels that grew successfully from the same starting point, and names the levers that would pull the dates forward.

This guide explains why the projection is a range, what the comparison cohort tells you, and how to use the levers as a plan.

Why a range

Subscriber growth compounds when a channel is healthy (more subscribers → stronger first-hour tests → more Browse) and stalls when it is not. The projection models three paths — current rate continued, compounding kicks in, momentum fades — and shows the milestone dates for each. The middle path is the plan; the gap between paths is the stake.

The comparison cohort

Channels that started at your size and niche and reached the next milestone in a healthy time frame share patterns: upload cadence, format mix, when they introduced series or Shorts. The comparison shows where your current pattern matches theirs and where it differs. The differences are usually the levers.

Levers as a plan

Each lever — consistency, a series, a Shorts funnel, a topic tightening, a collaboration cadence — has an estimated effect on the milestone date. Pick the two with the largest effect you can sustain, apply them for a quarter, and re-run. If the projection moved, keep going; if not, the lever was not the constraint.

Tips

  • Enter subscriber counts at three points in time (now, 30 days ago, 90 days ago); the curve shape matters.
  • Treat the 365-day figure as directional; the 90-day one is the actionable target.
  • Re-run quarterly and keep the outputs; the sequence is your growth log.

Common mistakes

  • Planning on the optimistic path — Plan on the middle; celebrate the top.
  • Pulling five levers at once — You will not know which worked.
  • Comparing with the fastest-growing channel in the niche — The cohort is chosen to be realistic, not aspirational.

Worked example

Input: "8,200 subs now; 7,650 a month ago; 6,400 three months ago; weekly-ish uploads; home espresso."

What the report returned: 90-day: 9,900 / 10,600 / 11,800. 10k: ~day 75 (middle). 100k: ~4.1 years at current path; ~2.3 with levers. Cohort match: cadence and topic; gap: no series, no Shorts funnel. Levers: 6-part series (−9 months to 100k), Shorts preview funnel (−7 months).

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the projection?

The 30–90 day figures are reliable within a narrow band; the 365-day figure is directional. Growth compounds or stalls based on what you do next.

Does it need my analytics?

Enter subscriber counts at a few points in time; Studio has them under Audience.

What is the biggest growth lever?

For most channels under 50k, a consistent slot plus a series. The predictor names yours.

Is this different from the Growth Milestone Tracker?

Tracker focuses on progress to each milestone with one action each; Predictor models the full curve and compares with a cohort.
